I knew it ended the only way it could, however I wished for Roy to have had a better relationship with his son. I really wanted Roy to get the girl and her husband in the wheelchair to end up with a female caregiver. As for the boy caregiver that died, he should have lived. All considered it was a good read, but without the ends tied up with a happy ending.Product details

Coyote Heart Second Edition edition by Paula Margulies Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Next time you run over a dog with your car, you just might meet an intelligent Pala Indian man who invites you into his home and his heart while you have to guiltily choose between your handicapped husband and the freshness of new romance. At least that's what happens in Paula Margulies's excellent debut novel, Coyote Heart. Yes, there is guilt, but Coyote Heart is a story of bravery, too. Margulies's prose is elegant, even hypnotic, and San Diego readers will enjoy seeing local landmarks mentioned by name as well as glimpses into Pala reservation life. The writing has echoes of Annie Proulx and Jodi Picoult.
I'm looking forward to Paula Margulies's next offering!
Reading Coyote Heart on a rainy East Coast day, I was instantly transported to dry, dusty San Diego. But there's nothing dry or dusty about the writing. This is character-driven fiction at its best, and while I didn't always like all the characters they were always true to their own personalities. That alone makes it worth the read, and I also learned about the Pala community and commitment. Bravo... can't wait to see what she writes next.
I had to pace myself as I read this first book by author Paula Margulies, as I vacillated between the urge to race through the pages to learn what happened next, and the urge to linger over each poetically charged descriptive word. The tension between these two urges is the hallmark of inspired storytelling and superb craft. Amidst this lush prose landscape Margulies unveils a cast of challenging characters struggling to make sense out of the difficult circumstances of each of their lives. Their actions, or inaction, naturally arise from who they are, although at times I wished they might have acted differently towards one another, within the context of their personalities and circumstances.
OK - I'm not typically a "romance novel" reader, but I live in the area where the story was set and was drawn in. I found the story to be very accurate in describing geography and places. It felt very much like my "hood".
What caught me off guard was how much I was drawn into the interactions and relationships. I was surprised to find myself caring deeply about the characters, cheering when they made good decisions, and anxious when they didn't.
Paula is a great story teller who keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good story which keeps you guessing right up to the end!
This is a story of a chance encounter, that like a pebble thrown into a tranquil pond, sends ripples in all directions and alters lives never meant to be touched. While the two main characters are grappling with their unexpected feelings for eachother, those around them are suddenly forced to face their own demons. The playful whirlwind that began between two lonely people rapidly becomes a destructive tornado that threatens everyone they care for.
The author treats her characters with empathy but doesn't try to minimize their flaws. Her writing skillfully draws you into the plot and makes you want to interfere when you begin to sense the dangers ahead.
This is an impressive first novel. I can't wait for her next effort.

I liked the story in this book. I could not put it down till I finished reading the whole story.
Thank you so very much for writing it.
